PROJECT DETAILS

The Qatar Petroleum - Mesaieed Industrial City (QP-MIC) Management is operating a Hazardous Waste Treatment Center (HWTC) at the outskirts of Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC). The HWTC is providing treatment and secured landfill facilities for hazardous wastes generated in various industries in the State of Qatar. Major elements of the HWTC are Landfill Class 1, Landfill Class 2, Solidification & Stabilization Facility, Oily Waste Treatment Facility, Liquid Hazardous Waste Facility and Evaporation Ponds. QPMIC is seeking extension of the existing Landfill areas i.e. Landfill Class 1 and Landfill Class 2, from the MME.

Presently, the HWTC does not have the capability to treat combustible (incinerable) hazardous waste. QP-MIC is planning to develop a hazardous waste incineration facility (HWIF) within the same site to take care of incinerable hazardous wastes generated in Qatar. The proposed development of Hazardous Waste Incineration Facility (HWIF) in the HWTC includes installation of three incinerators of capacity 1.9 MT/hour, each, in phases, to cover present as well as increase in waste generation rate. The Facility includes other sub-facilities such as storage area for incinerable waste, waste preparation and feeding system, elaborate air pollution control system, drum management area, ash handling system, evaporation ponds, etc. These facilities are being designed to take care of expected waste loads till 2030.

The project scope comprises of carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment for this facility. QP-MIC had approached Qatar Design Consortium to carry out the scope of work (SoW) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study and to prepare the report submitted to the MME and to obtain Environmental Approval from MME.A structured and detailed survey including walk over survey, sampling analysis were performed which includes critical environmental components like ambient air quality, ground water, soil and noise within study area.
