PROJECT DETAILS

The ORYX GTL LIMITED (ORYX GTL) warehouse’s capacity at the existing operations in Ras Laffan has a limitation in its storage. Hence, the management of ORYX GTL intends to establish a new warehouse facility away from ORYX GTL’s operating facility, as the existing plot plan does not have sufficient space for expansion. The new warehouse facility would be located within the Eastside Support Services & Industries Area (ESSA) of RLIC.

The proposed facility would include a chemical warehouse, offices and other support facilities such as a guard house and package substation, gas shed and others re-classified under storage, business and special purpose industrial occupancies at the RLIC, Qatar.

The existing warehouse facility at ORYX GTL’s operational site has a limitation on its storage capacity, which restricts the storage of additional goods. The existing plot plan does not have sufficient space for expansion. The proposed warehouse facility will be used to cater to the increasing inventory demands of ORYX GTL Limited.

The environmental impact assessment process and methodology incorporated at the study has been made in a manner that is representative of the evaluation procedure, and focus to bring out all critical and beneficial impacts in line with Qatar environmental regulations and more commonly describable method. The evaluation addresses both direct and indirect impacts that are adverse, as well as beneficial. The residual impacts arrived at are based on the understanding that, the proponent will consider implementation of all mitigation controls and put into practice identified control and preventive procedures at the facility operations.

The project scope comprises of carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment for this facility. ORYX had approached Qatar Design Consortium to carry out the scope of work (SoW) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study and to prepare the report submitted to the MME and to obtain Environmental Approval from MME.A structured and detailed survey including walk over survey, sampling analysis were performed which includes critical environmental components like ambient air quality, ground water, soil and noise within study area.

A series of recommendations to control and minimize risks and resulting impacts brought out from Risk Assessment studies have been done. The findings and recommendations of the Risk evaluation studies have been reviewed. The study included recommendations at the required environmental procedures, monitoring and reporting requirements for the construction and operation phases, to support the management to take these forward during the implementation and monitoring for compliance.
