Qatar Medical Devices (QMD) is a sister concern of Qatar Pharma under the parent company “The Al Sulaiti Holding”. The Al Sulaiti Holding is a leading private company in Qatar and has various divisions operating under its umbrella: Pharmaceuticals, Celebration Hall, Construction, Real Estate, Transport and a Law Firm. Qatar Pharma is a formulation unit, involved in the preparation of I.V. Solutions, Haemodialysis Solutions, and Topical Drugs. The plant started operation in June, 2009.

The Management now proposes to set up a new factory, in the name of Qatar Medical Devices, for manufacture of following plastic items: Jerry Cans; Ports; Caps; Jerry can Caps; Twin Caps; Insulin Pen and Cartridges. QMD will be installing various machines / equipment for manufacturing thespecified items.

The purpose of setting up this factory is to manufacture jerry can, jerry can cap, port, cap and twin cap which are being imported or purchased locally, at present. The insulin pen and cartridges will also be imported in the first year and later manufactured in the factory. The manufacturing of these items by Qatar Medical Devices will avoid the need to import these items.

The project scope comprises of carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment for this facility. QMD had approached Qatar Design Consortium to carry out the scope of work (SoW) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study and to prepare the report submitted to the MME and to obtain Environmental Approval from MME.A structured and detailed survey including walk over survey, sampling analysis were performed which includes critical environmental components like ambient air quality, ground water, soil and noise within study area.
